A BELLSHILL meat wholesaler has been given permission to expand its premises and add a new staff car park.
Dalziel Limited applied to North Lanarkshire Council seeking approval for its plans to increase the size of its head office in Bellshill North Industrial Estate, and councillors agreed to award permission subject to a list of conditions.
The application was made as the premises had been extended multiple times previously and once again was running out of space, so the company wanted to add some new offices along with 60 parking spaces, for staff use only and accessible from Hattonrigg Road.
The application attracted a noteworthy amount of opposition locally, with the council receiving 24 letters of objection and later two petitions bearing almost 200 signatures.
Points raised by these objections related to increased traffic and road safety, environmental concerns and property values, although council officers did not consider any of the complaints merited recommending the application be refused.
The council’s planning committee instead agreed unanimously with the recommendation to grant the application subject to conditions.
