Britpop icons feature in the line-up of Scotland's alcohol-free music festival.

Cast frontman John Power and Creation Records mogul Alan McGee, who is djing,  will attend the event in Queens Park Arena on June 30

Glasgow-based Shambolics will also play at Recovery Connects, which is a festival that aims to challenge the stigma surrounding addiction by bringing together people recovering from the misuse of drugs and alcohol. It allows people in recovery to connect with their communities in a welcoming, alcohol-free environment.

The festival was initially created five years ago by Eddie Clarke, Derek Watt, and Shaun Kenny, who were all in recovery themselves.

Eddie has been shocked by the growth of the festival over the years with 2,300 attendants in 2023.

He said: “We’re absolutely delighted to have secured such an incredible line-up for Recovery Connects this year.

“It’s all set to be bigger and better than ever before.

“It’s amazing to see thousands of people from all over Scotland standing shoulder to shoulder, taking pride in themselves and enjoying the music together.”

The event is sponsored by the charity We Are With You, with funding from the National Lottery Community Fund, and the Abbeycare Group, which run drug and alcohol rehabilitation clinics in Scotland and England.

The festival will host a variety of family-friendly activities, as well as providing food and non-alcoholic drinks. Stalls operated by mental health, recovery, and homelessness services and local social enterprises will also run throughout the day.

Last year’s event included a performance from Bez of the Happy Mondays who was inspired by the people he met at the festival.

He said: “It’s the first gig I’ve ever done in my life without a drink [or drugs].

“In this day and age, everyone needs some sort of escape. But do you know what the greatest escape is? Music.”

The free event will take place at Queens Park Arena in Glasgow's Southside on June 30 from 12pm to 6:30pm with acts such as Hazy Sundays, Local Authority, Amy Rodgers and Paul Byrne included in the musical line-up.
