North Lanarkshire Council will decide whether to allow a former indoor golf centre in Coatbridge to be redeveloped into a general industrial unit.

Auto Doors (Scotland) has applied for permission to proceed with its plans for the former Forsyth’s Factory in Woodside Street, which will also require an official change of use to be approved.

Documents submitted to North Lanarkshire Council state that the intention is to create a new base for the applicant’s growing business, which would be staffed by 16 people, mainly between the hours of 8.30am to 5pm with occasional overtime but not to the extent of causing noise nuisance at unsociable hours.

The site in question is adjacent to Old Monklands Church and cemetery with housing to the north and east.

Supporting documentation states: “This is a return to an industrial use, with more sociable working hours, during the business day therefore the hours of travel to and from the building will also be more sociable, reducing the residential impact during evenings/nights. As such, the proposals are not thought to detrimentally impact on the residential amenity of the surrounding area”.

The applicant also states that the traffic impact would be a maximum of 48 van movements per day but employees would also be encouraged to car share, use public transport via the nearby bus stop, walk or cycle.

Prior to their use as an indoor golf centre, the buildings were used by a large fruit and vegetable distributor which had almost 100 staff resulting in much heavier traffic than is forecast by the applicant if this development is permitted.
