Plans to grant an extension at the home of the leader of Glasgow City Council and her husband have been given the green light by councillors.
An application for a utility room and toilet at the house in Langside was submitted by councillor Susan Aitken’s husband and presented to members of the planning committee on Monday morning.
Elected members were advised that even though there were no objections for the single-storey side extension, plans had to appear before the committee because the applicant was the “spouse” of the council leader.
Councillor Andrew said: “I think this is a well-formed application – it is well designed and certainly in keeping with the original building within the conservation area.
“I see very little reason not to accept the recommendation of the report that we grant – subject to the six conditions within our report.”
Councillor Saqib Ahmed seconded the proposal.
He said: “I agree with your comments and will go with the recommendation. I think it will only enhance the existing property with the extension and when the days, weeks, months and years go past – people will need extra space in their house.
“From my point of view, I am absolutely happy with it.”
The application was then agreed unanimously.
