Glasgow Central train services have been cancelled due to 'heavy flooding' this morning.

Avanti West Coast has said services between Preston and Glasgow/Edinburgh have been halted in both directions due to flooding on the network between Carlisle and Lockerbie.

The travel firm announced the news this morning (Thursday, May 23) urging customers to 'not attempt' to travel with them between Preston and Scotland.

According to their website, several trains heading to London Euston via Preston from Central Station have been cancelled already.

Network Rail has also said the West Coast Main Line in Carlisle has been flooded due to the River Caldew in England bursting its banks.

The rail company has said this means services between Glasgow Central/Edinburgh Waverley and Carlisle are unable to run.

A spokesperson for Network said: "The River Caldew has burst its banks and flooded the West Coast Main Line in Carlisle, meaning services between Glasgow Central/Edinburgh Waverley and Carlisle cannot run."

Meanwhile, a statement on Avanti West Coasts website says: "Services between Preston and Glasgow/Edinburgh have been cancelled due to heavy flooding on the network between Carlisle and Lockerbie, which is blocking the line in both directions.

"Please do not attempt to travel with us between Preston and Scotland."
