A perv who was caught speaking sexually to a "14-year-old girl" was escorted out of court by police officers as the vigilante group who snared him turned up.

Brian Carracher, 52, previously appeared in court after he admitted to chatting with a decoy on Facebook.

"Sophie" immediately told Carracher her age and he turned the conversation sexual.

He asked if she was interested in "having fun" and requested to meet up.

Carracher also asked to see the girl's body and stated he wanted sex and for her to be his girlfriend.

This week, the Trongate man was back in the dock to be sentenced.

He pleaded guilty to sending written sexual communication to someone pretending to be a child.

His lawyer said: "He has suffered from mental health issues for a long time. He accepts responsibility for his actions.

"He made contact with her first on Facebook. Then, the decoy asked if he would like to add her on WhatsApp. That is my only observation."

Carracher was approached by a vigilante group at his home and the incident was live-streamed.

Sheriff Vincent Lunny said: "There is an image [of a girl] being sent to him by this group. He asked to see a picture of her body.

"This might be committing an offence as well. Did the girl consent?"

The Procurator Fiscal stated she did not know.

The sheriff replied: "It strikes me that there could be offences being committed by individuals taking the law into their own hands."

He went on to say that photographs of girls being sent is a cause for concern.

Carracher's lawyer said "there was never a prospect" of him meeting the girl in real life. He added: "That is fair to say".

Sherriff Lunny remarked: "Had it been a real girl, whether or not he would leave the house to meet her does not rule out contacting her via FaceTime."

The lawyer replied: "He understands and he accepts that".

Carracher was sentenced to 2.5 years of supervision with a restriction of movement requirement, which will force him to stay indoors between 7pm and 7am for 25 weeks.

The sheriff addressed him: "You should be under no illusion that these are serious requirements and they should be followed".

The man was escorted out of Glasgow Sheriff Court by police officers as members of the group which exposed Carracher on social media were present.

Sheriff Lunny observed: "That is a cause for concern."
