A supermarket in Wishaw is seeking the go-ahead from North Lanarkshire Council to upgrade refrigeration equipment on its premises.
Morrisons has submitted a planning application on behalf of its store in Kirk Road, giving details of its intention to replace existing plant machinery in its service yard, removing the old equipment in the process.
The system is described as low temperature (LT) refrigeration, which is designed to maintain temperatures well below freezing, typically in the range of -50 to -100 degrees Celsius, and with regard to food are often used to preserve perishables such as meat and shellfish.
Such machinery tends to be more maintenance intensive than standard refrigeration systems and also requires higher levels of energy to operate.
