The lead singer of a popular indie-rock band has hailed Glasgow as an ‘amazing city with remarkable energy’.

“It gets proper inside you, Glasgow, it affects your body with an energy you can’t escape, it’s quite remarkable,” Kieran Shudall of Circa Waves told the Glasgow Times.

He added: “Glasgow is class, I don’t know what it is but there is just something about the city. It’s a place where you go, I’m going to take it easy tonight and then it’s 3am and you are like, ‘F***’.”

Having played their own shows there, as well as support slots for the likes of The Libertines and French indie band, Phoenix, it is safe to say that the band has quite the relationship with the East End venue.

And for Kieran, there are few other places like it.

He said: “The Barrowlands is so special and cool. The first time we played it, I remember going into the dressing room where they have these stars on the ceiling which bands can pull off. Every one of us has got one of those stars.

“The floor is bouncy; the crowd is mental – it’s just a guaranteed good night.

“It’s amazing, it never lets you down.

“On a tour, you can get an ebb and flow in how mad the crowds are, so it’s nice to have the guaranteed good night coming.”

The album follows Kieran’s near-death experience back in 2023, when he had to receive an operation due to the main artery in his heart being severely blocked.

Despite the terrifying experience, the group have made a point of creating a positive and energetic nine-track record.

Kieran said: “It’s a record that I really wanted to make for me, in a purely catharsis way.

“I felt like I needed to get it out, to help me get through that mad time. I had two choices; I could either make a record that was really sad or a record that pulled me out – and I wanted to make something that was energetic, that made me want to get out and play these shows live.”

Kieran went on to say that the album is also a homage to ‘proper indie’ music.

He explained: “The album is my homage to proper indie – loud guitars and drums and music that I love. I hope others will love it too.

“I feel like it will appeal to some real Circa Waves fans. So, I’ll be interested to see their reactions.”

He added: “We like to do a bit of a party playlist vibe.

“We like to play the songs that people know, and we’ll throw a few new ones in.

“I’m not the type of person who is going to play some super deep-cut song that only two people know, I really couldn’t give a s*** about that.

“I want people to leave thinking, ‘That’s the best f***ing show I have seen all year.

“That’s my aim, I really want people to have an affordable, amazing night. I want people to see an amazing rock show and feel like they have got their money’s worth.”

The band will be releasing Love & Death, Pt. 2 in due course.
