A RENFREWSHIRE primary school is celebrating this week after inspectors praised its pupils and staff following a recent visit.
The Education Scotland team said Kilbarchan Primary’s acting headteacher Jennifer Walsh and senior leadership team led the “creation of a positive, nurturing culture across the school” and added: “Staff work well together to ensure children learn in a caring and supportive environment.”
Pupils were described as “confident and well-mannered”. The report added: “They enjoy participating in a range of roles, clubs and activities. This is helping them to develop a range of skills for learning, life and work.”

The inspectors also said: “Approaches to learning through play at the early level are promoting younger children’s curiosity and creativity.
“Senior leaders use information about children’s progress well to support children who require additional help with their learning.”

As areas for improvement, the inspectors said staff should “continue to develop high quality and consistent approaches to learning and teaching” and “continue to focus on improving attainment, particularly in writing.”

The report added that staff should “continue to work together to plan more effectively for all curricular areas, ensuring children build on their knowledge and skills as they move through the school.”
Ms Walsh said: “We are delighted with our positive inspection report and, in particular, we are pleased that the children have been recognised for their hard work, welcoming nature and always displaying our school values.”

Councillor Emma Rodden, convener of Renfrewshire Council’s education and children’s services policy board, said: “This is fantastic news for Kilbarchan Primary and a well-deserved recognition of the hard work and dedication of staff, pupils and the entire school community.
“It’s clear that the school has created a fantastic supportive, nurturing and ambitious learning environment.
“Kilbarchan is the latest of nine Renfrewshire schools to receive a positive outcome following an inspection report.
“That consistency is a testament to the strength of our schools and the support from the central team. It’s also reflective of Renfrewshire being praised with three areas of best practice in a recent national report on all 32 councils’ education services.
“That’s proof of our commitment to excellence and making a real difference for our children and young people.”
Janie O’Neill, director of children’s services for Renfrewshire Council, added: “I love the fact that the children have been recognised in such a positive way.
“The acting head teacher and wider staff should be congratulated for their hard work and efforts in creating a nurturing and inclusive ethos as identified in the report.”
