More than five hours on, three fire engines, an aerial vehicle, and specialist equipment continue to work to bring the blaze under control.
There are no reported injuries.
A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) spokesperson said: "We were alerted at 6.46am on Thursday, July 31, to reports of a commercial building fire at Stanley Street, Glasgow.
"Operations Control mobilised nine appliances and two high-reach vehicles to the scene, where firefighters have been working to extinguish a fire affecting a single-storey storage unit.
"As a result of ongoing firefighting operations and progress made, we have now scaled back our response to three appliances, an aerial vehicle, and specialist equipment.
"There are no casualties, and crews remain on scene. Members of the public are advised to stay away from Stanley Street and Milne Park Street, which remain closed, and residents should continue to keep windows and doors closed to avoid smoke inhalation".

A cordon was put in place on surrounding streets, including Stanley Street Lane, Portman Street, Admiral Street, and Milnpark Street.
Police have also been redirecting traffic away from the busy area, and residents are being urged to keep their windows and doors closed to prevent smoke inhalation.
Members of the public are asked to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Emergency services are responding to a fire on Stanley Street, which was reported around 7.10am on Thursday, July 31.
"Milnpark Street is currently closed at the Admiral Street and Portman Street junctions. Drivers and pedestrians are asked to avoid the area."
Our reporter was at the scene on Thursday morning as smoke poured out of the [[property]] and began to cover part of the nearby M8 motorway during rush hour.

The SFRS confirmed that the building has a cement asbestos roof; however, the fire is affecting the structure itself and not the roof.
As part of the SFRS’ safety measures, steps were taken to reduce any exposure to smoke and other ‘harmful substances’ for crews and nearby residents as well as members of the public.
People were also seen gathering at the cordon, with many business owners unable to get to their work.

Nicole Campbell-Watson, founder of Facespace, which is located at The Schoolhouse on Portman Street, explained that she is grateful the fire did not spread further.
She said: “Thankfully, it didn’t affect the Old Schoolhouse where my business is based. Fires are always worrisome; you never quite know how quickly they might spread or how severe they could become.
“So we’re grateful that the incident didn’t reach our part of the estate. Most importantly, we hope no one was harmed.
“There’s been no impact on our operations, other than a very small diversion earlier this morning.”

Meanwhile, Stephen Scott from Bigmouth Audio, a recording studio on Stanley Street, told of how his team have not been able to get into their building.
He went on to note that this is a “major concern” for the business.
Mr Scott said: “Currently, we haven't been allowed into our building - we occupy the entire building at 78a Stanley Street, so operations have been put on hold today, and hopefully we should find out more information later this afternoon.
“Fortunately, we have just finished delivering a major project last week, and other recording projects at the moment are happening in our London studio.
“That being said, we are moving into new projects at the moment, and as one of Scotland's busiest audio production companies that rely on access to our incredible studios, it's a major concern for us at the moment.”
