A man who wanted to make quick and easy money was caught with £8000 of criminal funds in his bank account.

Brad Taylor appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court this week after he pleaded guilty to being in possession of criminal property in his HSBC bank account.

He also admitted to trying to convert £5000 of it by attempting to withdraw it.

The 25-year-old appeared in the dock without his two co-accused, all strangers to each other.

Sheriff Vincent Lunny heard that £8000 was transferred into Taylor's bank account and he tried to take out £5000 of this on Buchanan Street on March 31, 2021.

His lawyer explained: "He was offered the chance to make some quick money and without thinking too much about it, he took the opportunity. He has some issues.

"He was going through an addiction then. He has been clean for a very long period of time and he is still being supported. It seems to me that he is fully engaged."

The sheriff replied: "There are serious criminals who can only operate if people are willing to help. He has lent himself to that.

"It’s assistance. He has a record. The others were given 12 months of supervision and tagged for 12 weeks.

"His offences are now four years old. There are no other pending matters. This is the last one."

He then told Taylor, of Kilmarnock: "There is nothing more to be said. You know that this is not acceptable.

"This allows other serious criminals to carry out other things. I acknowledge you are not one of them. This is not the case. If you were, you would be going to jail."

He was tagged for 20 weeks, forcing him to stay indoors between 7pm and 7am each day.
