A Glasgow man has been ordered to carry out unpaid work after stealing home furnishings from a Renfrewshire store.

James Shearer stole furniture, home furnishings, kitchenware and other household goods on February 25, 2023, from IKEA in Braehead.

The 50-year-old who has a “horrendous record” was subject to two separate court orders made at Glasgow Sheriff Court when the offence was committed.

As a “direct alternative to custody” Sheriff Sukhwinder Gill today ordered Shearer to carry out 225 hours of unpaid work in the community within 12 months.

In addition, he was ordered to wear a tag keeping him within his home in Commerce Street in the city, from 7pm to 7am each day for five months.

Sheriff Gill warned: “Should you not do the work, the matter will come back before me and from your record, I will be starting my sentence at 12 months.”
