A North Glasgow land will be sold and incorporated into a £100 million housing development.

The site, where the former Maryhill Hub stood and the adjacent land on Wyndford Road will be acquired by Wheatley Homes Glasgow.

The 4.31-hectare land was declared surplus in June 2022 and a capital receipt of £983,500 will be generated from its sale.

Purchasing it will allow the company to proceed with its masterplan to regenerate the area in a massive £100m upgrade.

The Wyndford development will consist of nearly 400 affordable homes for social and mid-market rent as well as a brand new, council-run community centre.

Also proposed are a new children’s play park and new and improved green spaces, open areas, improved walkways and cycle paths.

Work is expected to start on the site this year, with a completion date of 2030. However, the first tenants are expected to start moving in as soon as 2028.

Vacant Glasgow land could become new public park

We previously reported that the construction of the new neighbourhood started with the demolition of the four iconic Wyndford tower block in March last year.

Hundreds of onlookers gathered at several vantage points in North Glasgow to watch the buildings be pulled down.

Since then, a consultation was organised, encouraging the public to influence the development, including what amenities they would like to see and the materials used in construction.

At Glasgow City Council's Contracts and Property Committee yesterday, a site in Drumry was also sold to Wheatley Homes Glasgow for housing and a local football club was granted a 25-year lease of Ashford Park.

Councillor Ruairi Kelly, Convener for Housing, Development and Land Use at Glasgow City Council, said: “These approvals are important decisions for Glasgow as the disposals will bring hundreds of new homes to the city at a time when they are needed so much, and the lease of Ashford Park will allow a local football club to bring new life to a key community asset that can now once again be used by many clubs and teams.

"The disposals will also see receipts to support the delivery of public services across the city.”
