Man in court accused of 'murder' after death of Joanne Newlands

A man has appeared in court accused of ‘murder’ following the death of Joanne Newlands in Glasgow.

Police were called to a property on Kirkton Avenue in Knightswood at around 8pm on Tuesday, March 17, following reports of concern for a woman.

Emergency services attended, and the 41-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene.

Today (March 25), Brian Hughes made no plea when he appeared at a private hearing at Glasgow Sheriff Court.

The 49-year-old, whose address is listed as Broxburn, is charged with alleged ‘murder’ and a reported domestic abuse offence.

Hughes was committed for further examination and remanded in custody.

He will appear in court again within the next eight days.
