Man avoids jail after wrecking havoc on Glasgow city centre flat block

Rory Mulligan, 43, smashed a door and set off a fire alarm at the property on Renfield Street on November 26 2025.

Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that Mulligan had been in the city centre with his mum for her hip replacement consultation.

However, he later gained entry to the flat block after he followed a Just Eat driver inside.

A resident saw Mulligan standing in the hallway of the fifth floor and believed that he was drunk.

The same resident later heard banging before the fire alarm went off.

Another resident also heard banging outside his home and saw Mulligan in the common close.

The resident spoke to Mulligan briefly before he went back indoors.

Prosecutor Heather Naismith said: "The resident again heard loud banging coming from outside.

"He believed it was someone trying to kick his door.

"He opened the door to see what was going on and saw Mulligan lying on his back."

The police were called and by the time officer arrived, the fire alarm had sounded.

Damage was noted to one of the doors of the resident's home which had required "significant force."

The door was seen to have been burned and smelled of smoke.

The residents had evacuated the building.

Mulligan, of Dundee, was arrested.

He pleaded guilty to maliciously entering the building uninvited as well as culpable and reckless conduct.

Sheriff Andrew McIntyre tagged Mulligan for 20 weeks, keeping him indoors between 9pm and 6am.

He was also placed under supervision for two years.
