Glasgow's national stadium has unveiled a major upgrade.

Hundreds of new anti-slip steps have been installed at Barclays Hampden in an effort to improve safety and accessibility for fans and visitors.

The Thermagrip steps were fitted across key, central staircases by Thermapply, a UK leader in engineered anti-slip surfaces.

These staircases serve as primary access routes for thousands of supporters during major events, including televised sporting events and national occasions.

Mike King, joint managing director at Thermapply, said: "Barclays Hampden is a symbol of Scottish sport and national pride.

"To be entrusted with upgrading such a prominent and heavily used area of the stadium is a privilege.

"This installation demonstrates how safety can be elevated while also enhancing design.

"By fitting hundreds of new Thermagrip steps to key central staircases, we’ve helped create an environment that is as secure as it is visually impressive, ready to perform under the scrutiny of both supporters and television cameras alike."

The Thermagrip system uses a thermoplastic composite surface bonded to aluminium sub-bases, offering superior grip and long-term durability in both wet and dry conditions.

Each step was precision-engineered to match the stadium’s existing structural dimensions, ensuring a seamless and consistent finish.

The project was delivered on a tightly managed schedule to avoid disruption to fixtures and events.

Garry Blackadder, project manager for the Scottish FA, described it as a "durable, high-performance solution."

He said: "Enhancing the steps with the Thermagrip system has allowed us to significantly improve safety and accessibility for our visitors while maintaining the look and feel befitting Scotland’s national stadium.

"The result is a durable, high-performance solution that supports our ongoing commitment to providing a safe environment for everyone who comes to Barclays Hampden."

The installation meets and exceeds DDA, HSE, and BS EN safety standards, reflecting Barclays Hampden’s commitment to accessibility, inclusion, and world-class venue management.

Thermapply, based in the UK, has built a reputation for delivering robust anti-slip solutions for a wide range of environments, from playgrounds to premier sporting venues.

Its Thermagrip system is built to withstand more than one million footfalls and is engineered to perform in all weather conditions.

The system is customised to reflect the identity and operational needs of each venue it is installed in.

Thermapply’s wider mission is to design surfaces that protect people, preserve reputations, and perform beautifully for years to come.

For Thermapply, the successful delivery of the project further strengthens its standing as a trusted partner to major UK sporting venues.
