Glasgow's Queens Park Food Festival launches this weekend

The two-day celebration runs on Saturday, June 6 and Sunday, June 7 at the Queen’s Park Recreation Ground, promising something for every taste and age.

Four different stages of entertainment will run throughout the festival, with a line-up of music, chef demos, and lively performances.

The Main Stage will feature community groups and musical acts during the day, with tribute bands The McCommitments and One In Ten headlining on Saturday and Sunday evenings, respectively.

Peter McKenna, head chef and director of Bistro Eleven Fifty Five, will host the Live Cookery Theatre.

He will be joined by ten of Glasgow’s culinary talents, including Ajay Kumar of Swadish, Scott Dewar of Elements Restaurant, and Graeme Cheevers of Unalome and Loma.

Family-friendly fun is at the heart of the festival.

The Live Entertainers Stage will showcase a packed programme of magic, circus, and comedy, with performers including Matthew J Magic, Stu-Di-Doo, and Magic Gareth.

Shows will run from 11am to 4pm each day, with circus workshops offered between performances.

Elsewhere, in the Sizzing Showdown Arena, comedian Neil Frost will host four daily competitions open to all.

Visitors can look forward to a Family Dog Show and a Chilli Challenge, as well as the food-themed ‘Foodie Olympics’ and a round of ‘Pies Down, Eyes Down’ bingo, with prizes from market traders up for grabs.

Food and drink will be in plentiful supply, with independent street food vendors serving global cuisine.

Dishes from Mexico, Greece, Hungary, Brazil, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Jamaica, India and beyond will be on offer, along with sweet treats from dessert specialists.

Festival-goers can also enjoy drinks from eight different bars.

A Full Ale House, created in partnership with Vocation Brewery, will serve draught lagers and IPAs.

Soft drinks, fresh lemonade, ciders, cocktails, spirits and wines will also be available.

Artisan Markets will showcase a wide range of goods from independent makers and traders, including art, jewellery, savoury snacks, crafts, beverages, and more.

Younger visitors can take part in the Foodie Clue Quest Scavenger Hunt or enjoy creative activities in the Scribble Tent.

The Viking Heritage Kitchen promises something different, offering an introduction to open-fire cookery inspired by Viking tradition.

Festival-goers can also look forward to brass performances from Samba Ya Bamba, as well as visits from stilt walkers and roaming comedians.

Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) is the festival’s charity partner.

Organisers hope to raise awareness and support for people facing mental health challenges.
