A mental healthcare hospital has expanded with a new 12-bed rehabilitation ward.

Surehaven Glasgow, located in Drumchapel and operated by Shaw Healthcare, has opened the Munro Ward as part of its low-secure facility.

The extension will allow the hospital to support more individuals requiring low secure mental healthcare in a modern, therapeutic environment.

Councillor Anne McTaggart, who represents Ward 14 (Drumchapel/Anniesland) at Glasgow City Council, was among the guests who attended the official opening.

Russell Brown, chief executive of Shaw healthcare, said: "The opening of this new extension at Surehaven Glasgow represents an important investment in specialist mental health and supports our aim of providing outstanding care in environments that promote recovery and wellbeing.

"By focusing on rehabilitation, we create a compassionate and respectful environment where individuals are supported with dignity, respect and hope, helping them reclaim their well-being, rebuild their lives and reintegrate into the community.

"It is particularly fitting that we are celebrating this milestone alongside recognising the incredible achievements of our colleagues through our Long Service Awards and Scotland Regional Star Awards.

"Our employees are at the heart of everything we do, and while we celebrate this important milestone for Surehaven Glasgow, we are equally proud to celebrate our colleagues here in Scotland."

The event included a ceremony honouring staff through Long Service Awards and Scotland Regional Star Awards, recognising their dedication and contributions.

Martin Cassidy, Surehaven Glasgow’s hospital manager, said: "We are delighted to officially open our new Munro Ward and welcome guests to celebrate this important milestone with us.

"The additional capacity is a significant step forward, allowing us to support more individuals on their recovery journey while maintaining the high standards of care for which Surehaven Glasgow is known.

"Our multidisciplinary team will continue to work collaboratively to provide holistic care that addresses the unique needs and goals of every person, empowering them to take an active role in their recovery."
