Travis Perkins creates 15 new jobs with Glasgow Helen Street opening

The new outlet on Helen Street, launched by former Scotland international footballer and broadcaster Alan McInally, expands the company’s presence in the city and promises to boost access to building materials, tool hire, and kitchen supplies for tradespeople across the region.

Covering a 2.6-acre site, the branch stocks more than 25,000 products, including materials for landscaping, drainage, and a lintel range, alongside bricks, timber, and blocks.

Liam McIntyre, branch manager at Travis Perkins, Helen Street, said: "After months of planning and preparation, we are absolutely delighted to have opened the doors to our branch for the very first time.

"We have a strong presence in the city already but we are pleased to add another branch to our network, enabling us to provide even better service to the tradespeople who rely on us daily for their building materials.

"There are 17 staff members in the new branch, 15 of whom are new to Travis Perkins, and everyone has undertaken extensive training to enable them to provide the outstanding customer service the business is so well known for."

He highlighted the expanded services available at the location, which include a Benchmarx Kitchens and Joinery showroom and Travis Perkins Hire, part of the UK’s largest tool hire network with 273 branches nationwide.

To mark the opening, Travis Perkins hosted a "trade triathlon" for customers, with the chance to win tickets to the Commonwealth Games later this summer.

He said: "It was great to have Scottish football star Alan McInally in the branch to cut the ribbon, and our customers really bought into the trade triathlon with the winners having the chance to secure tickets to the Commonwealth Games."

They also marked the occasion with a £1,000 donation to Alzheimer Scotland, the company’s chosen charity.

Mr McIntyre said: "We were thrilled to be joined by Tom Pavey from Alzheimer Scotland on the day, and it is a pleasure to be able to make a donation to charity.

"It does tremendous work for those suffering with dementia and for us to make a small contribution to mark the occasion of us opening a new branch is a great feeling."

The Helen Street branch will be open from 7am to 5pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8am to 12pm on Saturday.

These hours will also apply to the Benchmarx showroom.
