Concertgoers heading to Hampden Park for Metallica’s sold-out Glasgow show are being urged to plan ahead after a major road closure was put in place near the stadium due to an emergency utility failure.

Menock Road has been shut between Aikenhead Road and Carmunnock Road following a Scottish Power high-voltage cable issue.

The closure is expected to remain in place while engineers assess and repair the fault.

Traffic is being diverted via King’s Park Avenue, with motorists warned to expect delays in the surrounding area as thousands of fans travel across the city for tonight’s concert.

The disruption comes as Metallica prepare to take to the stage at Hampden Park as part of their M72 World Tour, with tens of thousands of fans expected to attend the landmark gig in Glasgow’s Southside.

The band’s return marks their first performance in Scotland since 2017, and one of only three UK dates on the current tour.

Transport routes across Glasgow have already seen heavy demand throughout the day, with large numbers of fans travelling into the city centre and towards the stadium ahead of the show.

Authorities have advised concertgoers to allow extra time for journeys, follow diversion routes, and check for live traffic updates before travelling.

Further updates on the road closure are expected as engineers continue work on the fault.
