Glasgow city centre bus services will be heavily disrupted on Saturday as the annual Orange Order Boyne parade moves through the city.

Thousands of lodge members, bands and supporters are due to gather in districts across Glasgow before forming four large groups in the north, south, east and west and marching into the city centre en route to Glasgow Green .

Roads will be closed at various times to allow the parades to pass, with the biggest disruption expected late morning and mid-afternoon.

ScotRail has already warned that its Glasgow Station Bus Link between Queen Street and Central will change between 10am and noon, with a shuttle only between Glasgow Queen Street and Buchanan Bus Station and no stop at Glasgow Central during that window.

First Bus has published detailed diversions affecting a long list of services. In broad terms:

Key times to avoid

5am–10am: Early-morning closures and diversions in and around the city centre and east end.

10am–noon: Major impact in the city centre as parade groups merge at Jamaica Street and Broomielaw – many services diverted away from Union Street, Jamaica Street, Argyle Street and the bridges.

Noon–4pm: Ongoing diversions as lodges return from Glasgow Green back to local areas.

Main routes affected

Services are altered rather than cancelled, but many will avoid normal city-centre streets or terminate short. A non-exhaustive list of impacted services includes:

Service X8 – Airport/Silverburn express service diverted via the M8 and Springburn/Port Dundas loops between 10am and noon.

Services 9, 9A, 10 – Extensive changes:

10am–noon: City-centre access via Helen Street, M8 eastbound, Springburn and Port Dundas to reach Buchanan Bus Station.

Why this is happening

The changes are being made to accommodate the County Grand Orange Lodge of Glasgow’s annual Boyne parade.

Small lodge parades will start from around 8am in areas including Bridgeton, Easterhouse, Govan, Ibrox, Maryhill, Milton, Parkhead, Partick, Pollokshaws, Possilpark, Shettleston, Springburn, Thornliebank, Tollcross and Whiteinch, before merging into four larger groups outside the city centre.

These groups then converge at Jamaica Street and Broomielaw late morning to form one main march to Glasgow Green, with a return parade from the Green back through the city centre and out to local communities from around 2.15pm.

What passengers should do

Allow extra time if you are travelling between 5am and 4pm.

Expect bus stops and normal city-centre drop-offs to change, especially between 10am and noon.

Check live updates from ScotRail and First Bus before you travel on Saturday, as diversions may be adjusted on the day depending on how the parade progresses.
