There were tears after youngsters from a local dance club won a major international title.
Galaxy Dance and Cheer, based at Galaxy Gym and Studios in Inchinnan, celebrated an incredible victory at The European Summit in Lisbon, Portugal, where the club’s U18 Pom team, Solar, beat 11 teams from across Europe to take the top spot.
Head coach Leanne Sharp, 48, said: “There were tears of joy for sure.
"Coach Carys and I were so proud of the girls who worked so hard all season on their routine.
"Winning first out of 11 teams from countries including Germany, France, Denmark, Italy and Switzerland is an incredible achievement.”
The team returned home with a first-place banner, medals and commemorative silver necklaces — keepsakes Leanne says will serve as lasting reminders of a “very special” experience.
She added: "Such special memories were made."
The success marks a significant milestone for the club, which was competing internationally for the first time.
Alongside Leanne, the coaching team includes Carys Sharp, 21, head coach of the U18 Pom team; Abby McNish, 24, head coach of the U12 lyrical team; and owner Lauren Robinson, 42.
And the U12 lyrical team also rose to the occasion after delivering an impressive performance.
She said: “Our youngest team had a fabulous time and absolutely loved the experience of their first international travel event. Abby and I couldn’t have been prouder of their phenomenal performance — they are superstars.”
With momentum building, the club is already looking ahead to an ambitious 2026/2027 season.
Leanne said: "We have just sent out our team placements to new and returning athletes, and this season is set to be the biggest and best yet - with 16 teams planned.
"Our little U8 teams have already secured bids to compete in both Pom and lyrical at next year's European Summit; they can’t wait to follow in the footsteps of our older dancers in June 2027 alongside our U12 Lyrical team."
She added: "We have also secured bids to Allstar Worlds, in Orlando for April 2027 for our U14 Pom, Open Pom and lyrical teams."
