An easyJet flight from London Gatwick to Glasgow Airport declared an emergency after a passenger required urgent medical assistance.

Flight EZY861, operated by an Airbus A319, requested priority landing at Glasgow on Monday morning after the pilot issued a squawk 7700 emergency code around five minutes before the scheduled landing time.

The code is used to alert Air Traffic Control and other aviation services that an aircraft is dealing with an emergency, meaning it will be prioritised for landing.

The flight was met by paramedics after arriving at Glasgow Airport.

An easyJet spokesperson told The Herald: “Flight EZY861 from London Gatwick to Glasgow requested priority landing into Glasgow due to a customer requiring urgent medical assistance onboard. The flight was met by paramedics upon arrival.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet's highest priority.”
