A YOUNG man is in hospital after being stabbed in the back before collapsing in the street.
The 21-year-old is now in hospital with a serious injury after the attack by another man in Ardrossan on Monday.
He was approached by the man responsible around 6.10pm and was injured to his back.
The victim managed to walk along the road, Burns Terrace, before collapsing.
He was taken by ambulance to Crosshouse Hospital where staff describe his condition as being 'serious but stable'.
The suspect is described as white, in his 20s, about 5ft 7inch in height and wearing grey jogging bottoms and a grey hooded top with the hood up.
Detective Sergeant Craig Semple is appealing for anyone who was in the area around the time of the incident to come forward.
He said: "Burns Terrace is a busy residential area and I am keen to speak with anyone who has any information which could help identify the man responsible for the attack on the 21-year-old victim."
