PEOPLE are issued with Blue Badge for parking for a very good reason, that they are not as able as others to walk distances.

The badge is for the disabled person and not the car or the driver, so when the badge holder is not in he car the parking privileges do not apply.

When someone who is not entitled is using a disabled bay they are taking up a space for someone who needs it and the system breaks down.

Denis Robertson is to be commended for his Bill to tighten up the rules and allow councils to confiscate badges if they are being abused.

The regulations for disabled motorists and passengers are among some of the most important for ensuring people get around and are not isolated at home.

The council may have to pay greater attention to their system and keep records up to date to ensure only those who are entitled are in receipt of the benefits of the scheme.

If everyone understands the rules of the Blue Badge scheme and sticks to them then it will make life a lot easier for those not as fortunate as others to be able to park and walk or use public transport to get around.

Those who continue to abuse the badge have been warned.
