1 John Brown:
The Clydebank yard built the Queen Mary, QE2, Lusitania and HMS Hood.
2 Denny: The yard dominated shipbuilding in Dumbarton and built the world-famous clipper Cutty Sark.
3 A&J Inglis: At the confluence of the Clyde and Kelvin, the yard was most notable for building the Waverley.
4 Fairfields: The massive Govan yard is one of only two still in operation as part of BAE.
5 Alexander Stephen: BIlly Connolly worked as a welder at the Linthouse yard, scene of the Daphne disaster.
6 Scott Lithgow: Two yards - Scotts and Lithgows - merged to form the giant shipyard in Greenock.
7 Barclay Curle: The giant yellow crane of the shipyard still stands at Whiteinch.
8 Simons and Lobnitz: The Renfrew yard built dredgers until its closure.
9 Yarrows: The Scotstoun yard is the other one still operating.
10 Charles Connell and Co: Also in Scotstoun, it was one of five yards forming Upper Clyde Shipbuilders in the 70s.
