RANGERS star David Templeton believes he can be the answer to Ally McCoist's striking problem as the manager continues his search for another forward.

McCoist has identified an attacker he would like to bring to the club and believes chief executive Craig Mather is favourable towards recruiting the player.

So far there have been no firm offers and Rangers remain a little short in that area.

McCoist only sees summer signings Jon Daly and Nicky Clark as genuine strikers, with Andy Little thought to be more effective playing on the right.

The manager is also using Lee McCulloch in defence more often and that seems likely for much of the campaign.

A scorer of 15 league goals in 23 Third Division starts last season, Templeton, who hopes to be fit to face Stranraer tomorrow, showed how effective he can be going forward with some fine efforts.

He said: "The 4-1-3-2 formation we're playing at the moment doesn't really suit out-and-out wingers, but I feel my best position is off the main striker anyway.

"I'm not too fussed who comes into the squad. As long as I play well when I'm in the team there's no reason for me to come out of it.

"It's good that there's competition there and I feel I can make the right kind of contribution to the team. If that means playing up front, I'd be happy with that.

"I feel I'm good enough to take chances and I like to go in behind people. I'm a bit different to the other strikers and if the gaffer needs me there I'm there for him."
