Ryan Edwards says that Partick Thistle are due to give a team a real beating once they get a bit of luck on their side.

The Australian was disappointed to come away from Rugby Park on Saturday with just a point after feeling that they had outplayed Kilmarnock for long spells.

And despite falling back to the bottom of the table courtesy of Inverness’s late equaliser against Celtic on Sunday, he is unconcerned by their current league position.

According to Edwards, once the breaks start to go Thistle’s way, they are due to hand out a thumping – and he is hoping it comes this Saturday when they welcome Motherwell to Firhill.

“The boys were saying at training today that the luck is due to change and we are due to put four or five in,” Edwards said.

“We were looking comfortable for most of the game on Saturday and they went forward once or twice and the drop of the ball just seemed to be falling their way.

“The ball ricocheted into Kris Boyd’s path for the first one and he scores, then a hopeful cross drops on Souleymane Coulibaly’s head, fortunately for them.

"The luck just isn’t there at the moment, but I think that will turn when you consider the performances we’ve had so far.

“We’re bottom of the table and from the outside things probably don’t look good, but you come into camp and the environment is really positive.

“You would never think it was a club that is the bottom of the table, and we know we definitely don’t deserve to be there.

“If we keep performing like we have been, then one of these games we’re going to put a good few goals past a team. Hopefully that will happen sooner rather than later.”

Edwards knows that if Thistle are to have any chance of beating Motherwell on Saturday, they will need more than luck on their side.

First and foremost, he says that they will have to stop his countryman Scott McDonald and red-hot strike partner Louis Moult, who has bagged five goals in just 91 minutes of football this season.

“It’s a big game for us and we need three points,” he said.

“This is a game against a team who will most likely be around us come the end of the season, and we’ve got a tough game at Rangers the following week, so we’ll be looking to get the win.

“They are coming off a great result, so we know we really have to be focused and at our best to get the three points.

“I know Scott and played against him in the Championship down south as well. He’s a good guy and I’m looking forward to playing against him.

“If you look at their result at the weekend, then Moult and McDonald are their biggest threats, so I think if we can look to stop their quality going forward from those two then we can have a platform to go on and get a positive result.”

Another concern for Thistle will be the absence of club captain Abdul Osman, who was sent off after picking up two late bookings in Saturday’s game in Ayrshire.

That will place more responsibility on Edwards, who was deployed beside Osman in a deep-lying midfield position at the weekend.

“Abdul is a massive loss for us,” he said. “He’s our captain and he makes a massive difference in the middle of the park.

“It will be even tougher for us without him in the team, so if I’m given the nod again then I’ll have to be at my best.

“We’ve also got good players to come in like Adam Barton and Sean Welsh though, and they are more than capable of doing a job in there for us.”
