CLINT HILL hopes his defensive partnership with Rob Kiernan can be the foundations upon which Rangers build an improved Premiership run.

Boss Mark Warburton has been forced to mix and match his side throughout the campaign as injury and suspension have taken their toll at Ibrox.

It is to Hill and Kiernan that the 54-year-old has turned in recent weeks, however, as the duo have formed a working relationship at the heart of the Gers back four.

The former QPR stopper was on the scoresheet as Rangers dropped another two points against Ross County on Sunday.

Danny Wilson and Philippe Senderos are also vying for a starting spot at present but Hill is keen to give his partnership with Kiernan another go as attentions turn to the visit of Dundee next weekend.

“There has been a fair bit of chopping and changing in the centre-back position and in the whole team, if I’m honest, no one has really cemented their place,” he told RangersTV.

“Fingers crossed Rob and I have struck up a partnership but we need to be on our toes because we have Phillipe and Danny back in training now.

“Hopefully Rob can learn from me, I am just a humble guy who works hard and tries to do his best for the team, I hope people can look at that and follow it.

“I like Rob, he is a great lad and he has everything you need, he is strong, he’s quick and he is good in the air so he has everything you need to be a good defender. If I can help him along the way then that would be fantastic for me.

“I can learn from him as well, it’s about striking up a partnership and just playing games with each other in training and in competitive games.

“Then you form a bond and you know what players are going to do and where they are going to be at certain times of games and you can react to it. The longer that partnership goes on then the better it will get.”
