JAMES FORREST has added himself to the growing list desperate to see Stuart Armstrong commit his future to Celtic.

Armstrong only has just over a year left on his current contract at Celtic Park and three months have now passed since manager Brendan Rodgers first intimated he wanted to tie up one of his top Bhoys on fresh terms.

The 25-year-old currently has 15 goals to his name this season, including the opener in Saturday's 3-1 win over Kilmarnock.

And Forrest, who grabbed Celtic's third, is keen to see his fellow midfielder hang around Paradise beyond next season.

“I think a few of the boys have signed new deals this year. That’s the way it’s gone and there is a buzz about the place," he said.

“We want to continue that.

"I’ve not spoken to Stuart about it but I know he’s got [just under] a year and a half left.

“He’s been doing really well and I think he’s settled here. Hopefully another big player stays.”

Forrest, along with thousands of others, has been impressed with the transformation of Armstrong.

Once a fringe player with a questionable future at Celtic under Ronny Deila, he is now a full Scotland internationalist with a growing reputation.

"Since he’s been in the team he’s been doing really well and has kicked on," added Forrest.

“He’s been shooting outside the box and scoring a lot of goals. That’s a credit to him, he’s been working hard.

“We kept the ball well for a lot of the time, and it was good for him to get the goal that got us started."

As mentioned above, Armstrong was a shadow of the player last season that he is now.

While the Inverness native has to be credited with a lot of hard work himself, the influence of Rodgers is clear to see as one of his star talents continues to go from strength to strength.

Forrest added: "Yeah, definitely. I think you could say that about a few of the boys.

“He’s had a big impact on players on and off the park. Hopefully he can continue that form until the end of the season."

Earlier this month US chat show host and TV star James Corden Tweeted a video of Armstrong's goals this term while declaring his beloved West Ham should sign him up.

Speaking about his own future last week after being named March's player of the month, Armstrong said: "I tend to focus on being here and being a Celtic player, which I am.

"As I said before, I am really happy and in a really fantastic place.

"I love playing week in, week out in my favourite position for a club like Celtic – and playing under Brendan Rodgers as well. I couldn’t be happier.

"I think what the manager is building here is a real, good quality team. You have seen the step up we have made already in only his first season. I think that can only get better."
