I thought Moussa Dembele looked as though he was on fire for the brief time that he was on the pitch against Rangers last weekend.

But you couldn’t ask for a much replacement than Leigh Griffiths.

I am a huge fan of Dembele and I believe he has the temperament, the technique and the quality to go right to the top level in the game but I don’t necessarily believe that Celtic are weakened by bringing Griffiths into the fray.

What it does do, however, is underline the need for another striker to come into the club during the summer transfer window.

Goal scorers are not an easy find. They are the hardest positions to source and bring to the club, especially when you are working within certain financial parameters. And there is also the fact that with two strikers already at the club, there will be a question over whether they will be first, second or third choice.

But to the remainder of the season for now; Griffiths was exceptionally unlucky not to get his name on the scoresheet against Rangers on Sunday.

He had one beautiful touch when he brought a high ball down exceptionally gracefully before aiming a shot that was just tipped over the bar. He was also pivotal to the move which brought the penalty and the second goal and I think we seen enough of him to see that his confidence is high.

He looked really bright and I don’t think there has been any real despondency about him this season, despite the fact it has been a frustrating campaign for him.

He will be assured a bit of game time between now and the end of the season which gives him the chance to sign off on a high. It also augers well for Scotland too as Gordon Strachan prepares for the forthcoming World Cup qualifier against England.

Having Griffiths playing every week ahead of that one will ensure a match sharp player and the fact he hasn’t been involved every week will also lend him a freshness too.
