I said in last week’s column that I thought Friday night’s meeting between Aberdeen and Celtic would have a consequence for both clubs going into the Scottish Cup final

And, after the Parkhead club ran out 3-1 winners, I believe it will have a bearing - and it could help both teams in a funny way.

Celtic stormed right out of the blocks and were helped by Aberdeen on a couple of occasions. The way the Pittodrie club responded after an early goal blitz was admirable and they were good for chunks.

Celtic will feel they have beaten Aberdeen once more but the Dons will think one day their luck may change. Apart from the early part of the game, they weren’t outgunned.

Sadly, most of the chat surrounding the cup final has not been on the two teams involved but many tickets their respective supporters will get.

Leaving aside the issue of tickets for the ‘football family’ which could leave Celtic themselves selling slightly less tickets for their own end, every cup final should always be a 50/50 split. I have covered German Cup finals and FA cup finals and that has always been the case. It’s not negotiable.

I don’t care Celtic or Rangers have more fans, that’s irrelevant. You should want to see the spectacle of the ground half and half. That’s what we are selling to the world as well.

Granted some teams don’t have the fans to fill their full allocation then you change it, but you have to start there.
