PEDRO CAIXINHA reckons Rangers’ team spirit shone through on Sunday as his side rounded off their pre-season schedule with victory at Hillsborough.
The Light Blues beat Sheffield Wednesday 2-0 thanks to goals in either half from Josh Windass and Kenny Miller.
It was a productive afternoon for boss Caixinha as he put his side through their paces for the final time before the Premiership opener against Motherwell this weekend.
The Portuguese has added nine new faces to his squad in recent weeks and handed several summer signings another start against the Owls.
And Caixinha was pleased to see the reaction from his players on the park during a deserved victory over Carlos Carvalhal’s side.
He said: “I think that one of the ways you see the spirit that a squad has on the pitch is when the team celebrates a goal.
“If you watched the game on RangersTV then you can see from the way that we celebrated the second goal that the squad are gaining in confidence and spreading that to each other. This is one important point as well.”
There were plenty of reasons for Caixinha and the Light Blue legions to be cheerful at Hillsborough as Rangers followed up their draw with Marseille and win over Watford with an accomplished performance.
Portuguese pair Bruno Alves and Fabio Cardoso played their part in helping the Gers record a clean sheet, while Ryan Jack and Graham Dorrans were impressive in the middle of the park.
Caixinha told RangersTV: “We have options everywhere now and that’s the main reason why we wanted to start to build the squad and to build that competitiveness.
“It’s true that the guys who are playing in the starting eleven just now are doing really well just now, which means that the guys who are fighting for a position need to keep pushing. That’s the competitiveness we want.
“We have the squad we designed and built and we know that we have the squad that we asked for. We are really pleased with all of the work and effort that the boys have been putting in so far.”
