JAK ALNWICK hopes he can make the most of his chances to impress in the Betfred Cup this term.

The keeper was handed his Ibrox debut by boss Pedro Caixinha as Rangers eased into the quarter-finals with a 6-0 win over Dunfermline on Wednesday night.

Alnwick has found first team football hard to come by since the made the move from Port Vale in January as number one Wes Foderingham has retained the Gers gloves.

The 24-year-old is set to keep his place in the starting line-up when the Light Blues face Partick Thistle in the last eight of the competition at Firhill.

And he knows he has to catch the eye when called upon after a straightforward night at the office against the Pars.

“As you have seen, we dominate the ball and then there is that one split-second where you can’t switch off or you can get sucker-punched,” Alnwick told the Official Rangers Podcast. “It is all about concentration.

“Wes will be able to tell you as well. It was the last minute at the weekend and he made a big save.

“I think it was the 89th minute and that is the kind of concentration that you need. It was good to be out there.

“You have just got to do what you can do and whatever games are available and whatever games the manager wants me to play in, I will just give my all.

“Wherever it takes us, I am happy here to matter the situation. But I am going to keep pushing and if I keep clean sheets in this competition we will see where it takes me.

“They (Thistle) are a good side. In this league, there are no bad sides so it is going to be a tough one away from home.

“But I think if we play near to what we did [on Wednesday] we should do well.

“We take one game at a time and we are moving on to [Hibs]. Hopefully we can get the win and keep looking forward and keep the momentum going.”
