ALLY MCCOIST reckons Rangers need leadership on and off the park if they are to turn their campaign around.

The Light Blues suffered a second consecutive Premiership defeat on Friday night as they went down 2-1 against Dundee at Dens Park.

The loss to Neil McCann’s side came just days after Hamilton stunned Ibrox by inflicting a first defeat on interim boss Graeme Murty.

Attentions on the pitch have now turned to the crunch double-header with Aberdeen on Wednesday and Sunday as the Gers attempt to get back on track in the top flight.

But supporters have a chance to quiz Dave King and his board on Thursday as the Annual General Meeting is held in Glasgow.

And former boss McCoist knows there must be improvements at all levels after a poor start to the season cost Pedro Caixinha his job at Ibrox.

He said: “I tell you what Rangers need, they need a bit of leadership both on and off the park. And they have neither at the moment.

“The club is in a distressing state and obviously it is a club very close to my heart and I take no pleasure at all in saying it.

“But you look at that team just now, you look at what is happening off the park. Does Herrera want to be there? Does Candeias want to be there? Does Pena want to be there? I am not so sure.

“He (Pena) should have been running out and warming up himself trying to catch Graeme Murty’s eye.

“I go back to O’Hara. He epitomises a team that have not got the talent of some of the players on the opposite side but shows an attitude and a desire.

“Rangers lack leaders on and off the park at this moment in time.

“[It is] a group of players that certainly aren’t good enough to challenge, at this moment in time, Celtic. And nor will they be.

“There has to be fresh talent that comes into Rangers. I am sure we will all be in agreement that the squad Rangers have at this moment in time are nowhere near.”
