Partick Thistle manager Alan Archibald was gutted that the Jags did not hold out to take something from Celtic at Firhill last night.

Thistle led through to a first-half penalty from Conor Sammon, a strike that was cancelled out by a Scott Sinclair spot-kick and a Leigh Griffiths winner.

"It is disappointing we put a lot into the game," lamented Archibald. "It was a lot of effort and work rate.

"We put a lot into the first half and obviously they changed, bringing Griffiths on and tweaking the formation. We didn't quite get grips with it early enough."

However, Archibald is optimistic that Thistle can take the form they showed against Celtic into the latter half of the campaign as they look to kick on,

"It was a much better performance and we can build it now and take into the next 15 games," said the Thistle manager.

"It was a new back four. {James] Penrice came into the defence, Baily [Cargill] came in and Muzzy came in as well and the youngster did really well.

"They will learn from that.

"We have only made one signing but it seems like we have three or four in terms of having the boys back. We know we have decisions to make, we haven't had that - we have' filled the bench on nine occasions."

And Archibald reserved particular praise for Cargill who had an inauspicious introduction to his team-mates.

"He was great," said the Jags boss. "We worked for half an hour in indoor Toryglen on half a pitch with a curtain up.

"Considering that was the first time he met the guys, he hardly knew their names so I was delighted with them."
