THE Scottish FA have performed a U-turn and are now considering performance director Malky Mackay for the role of manager.
Former chief executive Stewart Regan rejected the possibility of Mackay taking the job on a permanent basis in November, hours before the 45-year-old led the national team on an interim basis for a 1-0 friendly defeat against the Netherlands.
However, the BBC reported on Wednesday that the former Wigan, Cardiff City and Watford boss is now in contention to succeed Gordon Strachan in the role.

Mackay was appointed as the new performance director at Hampden in December 2016, where he is responsible for overseeing the development of young players.
Walter Smith emerged as a candidate this week as the SFA step up their search for a permanent manager following Michael O'Neill's rejection in January.
Former Rangers manager Smith previously led the national team between 2004 and 2007, but has been out of the game since retiring in 2011.
