I have to say that it will be down to Leigh Griffiths to go and prove himself all over again now.
I don’t think there is any doubt that he was annoyed at being overlooked for Steven Naismith for a starting slot against Albania last month at Hampden.
But what he has to do know is get back to proper fitness. He has had to prove himself to managers all the way through his career and whether Alex McLeish is hinting that he may not get back into the team or not, the fact is that if you are scoring goals and playing well then you become impossible to ignore.
Just ask Gordon Strachan.
I also think that McLeish would have anticipated a reaction when Griffiths wasn’t picked for that Home Nations game. He would have known that he would be frustrated at finding himself back out of the team.
But I wouldn’t cast any doubts on Leigh at all. He is a professional and if he feels that he needs to go and work on his fitness then I think you have to trust him on it.
He is only 28. There are plenty of caps in him yet.
