JOCK Stein has been ranked lower than Fabio Capello, Diego Simeone and Jurgen Klopp in France Football’s list of the top 50 managers.

The Celtic legend is immortalised in Scottish football, having won the European Cup in 1967 while claiming 25 honours during his time at Celtic Park – including nine league championships in a row.

Stein's Lisbon Lions’ victory over Inter Milan saw Celtic become the first British team to lift the European Cup – and led to Liverpool legend Bill Shankly declaring him “immortal”.

Shankly is listed 10th on France Football’s list, which is topped by Ajax hero Rinus Michels and followed by Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson in second and AC Milan hero Arrigo Sacchi in third.

But having current Liverpool manager Klopp ahead of Stein is sure to rankle with Celtic fans.

Klopp, ranked 27th, has twice taken teams to Champions League finals – once with Borussia Dortmund, once with Liverpool – but has never won the modern equivalent of the European Cup.

Former Scotland boss Stein also took Celtic to a further European Cup final in 1970 but lost out in extra time to Feyenoord in Milan.
