RANGERS could theoretically appeal the decision by Kilmarnock to cut their ticket allocation in half for the final league game of the season, but HeraldSport understands that the SPFL board would be unlikely to rule in their favour if they do so.

The SPFL rulebook does not contain any minimum provision of away tickets that must be offered by home clubs to visiting supporters, stating only that 'a reasonable number' of away fans should be accommodated.

Under Rule I27 in the SPFL Rules and Regulations under Admission Prices, Admission to Grounds and Ticket Distribution, "The Home club must make provision for the admission of such reasonable number of visiting supporters at every home League Match and Play-Off Match as may be agreed in advance with the Visiting Club and, in the event of their being unable to agree such number not later than 14 days prior to the date of the League Match or Play-Off Match in question, the number of visiting supporters allowed shall be determined by the Board whose decision shall be final and binding."

There have been no recent cases of clubs contesting the number of tickets they have been awarded at away grounds, despite the cutting of allocations at both Ibrox and then Celtic Park for matches involving the Old Firm from the start of this season.

If Rangers were to appeal in this instance after their usual allocation was halved, they would be unlikely to secure more than the 4000 tickets they are being offered, with this still being over 22% of Rugby Park's 17,889 capacity.

Meanwhile, the SPFL have revealed the key dates for this coming season, including details of the retention of the winter break.

All four divisions will kick off on the weekend of Saturday August 3, with the Premiership shutting down from Monday December 30 until Friday January 17.

The Betfred Cup will kick off in mid-July and the last 16 will again be played on a weekend to avoid clashing with UEFA competition dates.

Dates for next season’s Challenge Cup competition will be confirmed shortly while fixtures for the 2019/20 league season will be published in June.
