THE reception that Lee Wallace got against Aberdeen on Sunday was well deserved and I was delighted that he got on for what could be his farewell appearance at Ibrox.

What a servant he has been for Rangers. A good captain, brilliant about the dressing room, a great player on the pitch.

It was a touch of class from Steven Gerrard to give him the last few minutes and I know big Waldo would have been delighted to get the chance to say goodbye and thanks to the supporters for all the backing he has had over the years.

It was well deserved for everything that he has done for Rangers during some really difficult years.

I was lucky enough to be with him at Ibrox and he was a brilliant vice-captain for me while I had the armband. That was an honour for me and I know how much being skipper meant to him as well.

He will have realised a while ago that this would be his final season with Rangers and he will move on once his contract expires.

But he will have wanted to have that chance to say goodbye to the fans. That will sit better with him.

The supporters gave him a great reception when his name was read out, when he was warming up and when he came on as a sub.

If that proves to be the last time they see him in a Rangers shirt, he will go with their best wishes.

It has been a difficult last couple of seasons for Lee and he clearly hasn’t played as much first team football as he would have wanted.

But I know he will still have been a big figure around the squad and the dressing room and he will wish the manager and the players at Ibrox well for next season.
