RANGERS will end the season without any silverware and second place is secured in the league. But they still have Old Firm bragging rights to play for on Sunday and the final game with Celtic is still an important one for Steven Gerrard.

This one is all about beating their biggest rivals and they will want to give the Ibrox crowd another performance and result like the one they produced in December.

The fans will want something to shout about and a bit of hope going into next season. You would then go into the summer with a bit of optimism once again.

Steven will have wanted to deliver a trophy for the supporters but that hasn’t happened. He did manage to end the long winless run against Celtic, though, and now he needs to go and win again on Sunday.

These games are always important, no matter what has gone on or what is at stake. And Rangers won’t want to have a losing record against Celtic over the four Premiership meetings.

This one will certainly not be played like a friendly, that is for sure!

All three fixtures this season have been competitive and there have been flashpoints that have sparked a bit of debate and a bit of fall-out.

For the players, it is all about going out and winning their individual battle and doing their bit to help the team win the game.

There is a lot of talk about tactics and formations around these fixtures, but it does just come down to who plays better on the day and sometimes just who wants it more.

You need to win your 50/50s, you need to stay calm and you need to be mentally strong enough.

If you can’t take the ball under pressure, if you don’t have that will to win, then you won’t be successful in this game. Rangers, at home, should see this is a winnable one.

The victory over Hibernian last weekend was their fifth in succession so they are in good form.

They have to work harder than Celtic and let that class and confidence shine through. It will certainly been an interesting game.

Everyone will look at what has happened in the previous three Old Firms and try to figure out how or if that will impact on Sunday.

But the players just need to take this one on its own merits.

It is a game where you need to stamp your authority, so if you are not playing that well you need to make sure the guy you are playing against isn’t either. You need to win the 50/50s, win the headers and the first tackle is important.

It doesn’t matter if you have won five Old Firms in-a-row or lost a few, the form goes out the window.

Every game is different, every game is like a cup final.

If you played three Old Firms in a week, they would be three different sorts of games. You have to play the game, not the occasion.

You just concentrate on your game, do your bit for the team and you let the occasion and the crowd take care of itself.

At Parkhead last time out, Rangers were maybe a bit naive and you saw the incidents with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent. Maybe those reactions were natural, but you can’t have them whatever team you are playing for.

You need to keep a cool head and keep composed. That isn’t just when you are on the ball, that is when the fans are giving you stick or someone is trying to wind you up.

I am sure Steven will mention discipline to the players, especially after another red card last week. Rangers can’t afford to shoot themselves in the foot again.
