IT looks like the red card Alfredo Morelos got at Parkhead has counted against him at international level after he missed out on the Colombia squad for the Copa America.

Alfredo is desperate to play for his national side and he will be disappointed not to be selected by Carlos Quieroz. It would have meant a lot to him, but he can’t dwell on the disappointment.

If he had been playing regularly in the last few weeks, that could have made the difference but the red card against Celtic denied him that chance and he now has just one more game to get that 30th goal of the season when Rangers face Kilmarnock on Sunday.

If you are Quieroz, you can’t pick someone that is not playing. It is Alfredo’s fault, and it is a learning curve for him.

If he does move on from Rangers and he keeps getting sent off, then he is never going to get a game for his national side. An international boss needs players that are in form with their club, and missing games through suspension won’t get you in squads.

Hopefully that will be a valuable lesson for Alfredo. He will be disappointed, but it could turn out to be an important moment in his career if he reacts in the right way.
