The 33-year-old American, originally joined the Clan as a player back in 2014, before moving onto the Sheffield Steelers only one year later.

During his time with the Steelers, Fitzgerald won an EIHL league title in 2015/16 and an EIHL playoff championship during 2016/17.

Following three season's in South Yorkshire, Fitzgerald returned north to Glasgow last summer to become the captain of the new look Clan.

Fitzgerald commented: "I'm really really excited and pumped to be heading back to the Glasgow Clan.

"I've really enjoyed my time at the club, so now with a new job and a new title I can't wait to get the new season started.

"The focus now is finalising our player targets, getting the right team on the ice and putting an exciting team on the ice again.

"It's a natural progression for me, it was nice to get that call from Gareth and say exactly what I wanted to hear - it was too good of an opportunity to pass up!"

Clan Chief Operating Officer Gareth Chalmers commented: "We are delighted to welcome Zack and his family back to the Glasgow Clan.

"When starting our search for a new head coach, I wanted someone who knows the EIHL, but also has a connection with the club and city.

"In appointing Zack, we have someone with that experience, someone who already understands the demands of being head coach of the Clan.

"We have a very good core group of players already signed for the 2019/20 season, so it was important we appointed someone who complimented the ethos we are implementing here.
