Rangers are on the verge of completing another summer signing this season after Swedish international Filip Helander agreed terms, Celtic target Tommy Smith looks set to snub the Hoops and Killie boss Angelo Alessio has issued a hands off warning over Stuart Findlay.

Filip Helander to Rangers

Swedish defender Helander is understood to have agreed terms on a deal at Rangers where he'll become their eighth signing of the window.

Manager Steven Gerrard has made no bones about the fact that he wants another defensive option in the door and a £3.5m fee has been agreed between the Light Blues and Helander's Bologna side.

The 26-year-old is poised to finalise a four-year contract at Ibrox and the deal could be announced later today.

Celtic target 'chooses Stoke'

Huddersfield ace Tommy Smith has chosen to sign for Stoke City, according to reports.

The Daily Record claim the captain has agreed to play for the Potters in a deal that could be worth around £4m.

Smith missed his side's friendlies and could meet up with his new English Championship teammates this week after a deal was reportedly thrashed out.

Celtic are desperate for a right-back after Mikael Lustig and Jeremy Toljian both departed.

Neil Lennon wants big things from Nir Bitton

Hoops boss Neil Lennon singled Israeli Bitton out for individual praise earlier this week after his side's 3-1 win over Sarajevo in the Champions League qualifier.

Lenny said: “I'm looking for a big season from Nir – no matter what position he plays. He's had a very good pre-season after a bad injury. It was a concerted period out for him – 10 months to a year.

"He played a few games for me last season but he still had a little problem with his knee. Nir went away with Israel and has come back looking really good."

Hands off Findlay, says Angelo

Oxford United have been told to back off in their bid to sign Scotland squad member Stuart Findlay by his club manager Angelo Alessio.

The Kilmarnock defender is reportedly wanted by U's boss Karl Robinson.

But Italian Alessio has told the English outfit to keep their mitts away from his player, according to the Scottish Sun.

The gaffer said: “He is one of our top players and I want to keep my top players at the club.”

Waghorn reckons it's Gers' year

Ex-Rangers ace Martyn Waghorn believes Steven Gerrard's men can win the title this season.

Celtic have raced away to win eight league titles in a row and have their sights set on a ninth this year.

But Derby County striker Waghorn insists it could be a big year for the Light Blues.

He told talkSPORT: "I just believe the manager they've got, a year under the belt, a year down the line, they've got a right good chance and I hope they can do it.

"Hopefully they've got a chance and I believe they've got a chance."
