Hatem Abd Elhamed ‘heading to Celtic’
Hapoel Be’er Sheva’s Hatem Abd Elhamed - who can play at centre-back or on the right side of defence - is closing in on a move to Celtic for a fee of around £2 million plus add-ons. The Scottish Sun are reporting that Celtic and the Israeli club have agreed a fee for the 28-year-old, who received his first cap for Israel last month.
Lennon praises Celtic players’ discipline
Celtic boss Neil Lennon has praised his Celtic players for remaining calm in the face of some physical treatment from their opponents as they beat FK Sarajevo to progress to the second round of Champions League qualifying. Lennon said: “It was really important [the players remained calm] because discipline is a big factor and we don’t want to lose anyone for the upcoming games.”
Gerrard eyes one more signing
Rangers manager Steven Gerrard has revealed that he would like to move more fringe players on this summer - and would still like to bring at least one more player in. “Whilst the window is open I predict there will be people going the other way,” Gerrard said. “I think we’re nearly complete in terms of the squad we are trying to build in terms of incomings.”
Simpson to go on trial at Celtic
Full-back Danny Simpson, who was part of Leicester City’s title-winning team, will go on trial with Celtic next week as Neil Lennon looks for defensive reinforcements for his squad. Simspon, 32, is currently out of contract after leaving Brendan Rodgers’ Leicester at the end of the 2018/19 season.
Bolingoli thanks McGregor for bailing him out
Celtic defender Boli Bolingoli, who was at fault for Sarajevo’s goal in Celtic’s 2-1 win last night, has thanked his team-mate Callum McGregor for grabbing the winner. Bolingoli said: “Of course, I was disappointed with their goal because it was my fault. That can always happen, but we have to avoid those kind of mistakes at the back. I’m happy that my team-mate Callum helped me out and that we got the victory.”
Norwich ‘close’ to agreeing fee for McAlear
Motherwell midfielder Reece McAlear could be set to join Premier League newcomers Norwich City, with the Scottish Sun reporting that the two clubs are close to agreeing a fee for the youngster. McAlear, 17, has a year left on his deal and is highly regarded by the Motherwell coaching staff.
Oxford pull out of Findlay negotiations
Kilmarnock defender Stuart Findlay will not be moving to Oxford United, after the League One club pulled out of negotiations for the centre-back. The Scottish Sun are reporting that Oxford judged Kilmarnock’s asking price to be too high.
Hibernian sign Vela on three-year deal
Former Bolton Wanderers midfielder Josh Vela has joined Hibernian on a three-year contract after leaving the English League One side on a free transfer this summer, report the Scotsman. The 25-year-old made over 180 appearances for Bolton before becoming Paul Heckingbottom’s seventh summer signing.
