THE rebuilding job that Steven Gerrard has undertaken this summer will make or break Rangers’ hopes and ambitions over the coming months as they bid for European success and domestic silverware.

Yet the work going on behind the scenes is just as important for Rangers, both in the here and now and the years ahead.

When Dave King, Paul Murray and John Gilligan claimed the keys to Ibrox, they inherited a stadium that had all the history and grandeur fans would immediately associate with it. But the old place was more than a little rough around the edges.

Since then, it has gradually been brought back up to standard and a bit of TLC, and a fair few quid, have made a noticeable difference as Managing Director Stewart Robertson has overseen the works.

The new track, replacement panelling and work on the roofs are most noticeable to fans but a plush lounge for Steven Gerrard’s players is nearing completion and will enhance the matchday preparation for the Gers this term. Throughout the building, carpets have been replaced, walls have been painted and the wood varnished.

At the Hummel Training Centre, a new auditorium for analysis and Press is almost completed, while a dome and 4G pitch will be installed to go along with the new stand for youth and Women’s games.

More improvements are planned ahead of the club’s 150th anniversary in 2022. The touches may seem small, but together they will make a big difference for Rangers.
