Boxing legend George Foreman has revealed his desire to see Scotland win the Rugby World Cup.

The bizarre love affair between American Foreman and the Scottish national rugby team was highlighted in the build-up to Gregor Townsend's men playing their opening match against Ireland next month.

Former World Heavyweight Champion Foreman - famed for his rumble in the jungle with Muhammad Ali - explained his high hopes for Scotland on BBC Sportsound at the weekend.

Scotland set to be tried and tested at World Cup 2019

He said: "One of my bucket list things to see is Scotland really winning the World Cup in rugby.

"Look how long, was it 1871?

"Always, the biggest challenge you're going to get in the world is going to be from Scotland.

"Give me a World Cup, please, and then I may consider a rest."

Scotland were hammered 32-3 by France at the weekend after tries from Raka, Alldritt, Dupont and two from Medard.

The Scots will face-off against Samoa, Russia and tournament hosts Japan in their pool.
