Craig Beattie reckons Rangers' signing of Ryan Kent is NOT a gamble - as the winger had a better loan spell at Ibrox than Odsonne Edouard did at Celtic before he was signed permanently.

Kent won Young Player of the Year after the season he enjoyed as a Rangers player on loan from Liverpool.

The winger scored six goals and provided nine assists in 43 games for the Light Blues while Edouard grabbed 11 goals in 29 games during his initial temporary spell at Parkhead from PSG.

With Gers having now splashed out £7million on Kent - and Celtic dropping £9million for Edouard - Beattie believes Gers have done some good business with Kent.

Speaking on Clyde 1 Superscoreboard, Beattie said: "It’s definitely not a gamble.

"I'm going to draw an analogy to Brendan Rodgers bringing Edouard in on loan with the £9million permanent fee that would come if he was happy with him.

"Kent did a lot better than Edouard did during his loan season.

"And I think that’s the reason it’s not a gamble.

"I also think that was the reason they were able to push through the £7million on the last day of the window."
