Rangers remain interested in Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio.

Veteran Marchisio, 33, has been a free agent since leaving Zenit St Petersburg.

Steven Gerrard was reportedly keen to bring the Italian to Ibrox but interest on the player's part is limited.

Juventus legend Claudio Marchisio 'rejected' chance to play under Steven Gerrard at Rangers

Italian journalist Nima Tavallaey Roodsari claims contact has been made by Gers in a bid to convince Marchisio to spurn interest from the likes of Monaco and Porto.

Roodsari, who helped break the news of Filip Helander's move from Bologna, told Rocksport Radio: "As far as Rangers go I know there's interest in Marchisio, I've had it confirmed.

"They've contacted his people, his agent, to see if there's an interest.

"I don't have it confirmed that it's gone much further than that.

"You have to remember Monaco, Porto. There are a lot of clubs that Marchisio is interested in and have been interested in him.

"I don't see Rangers being the favourite to sign him."

The journalist also believes one aspect which could potentially swing in Gers' favour is the influence of manager Steven Gerrard.

He added: "What's said about Steven Gerrard is true, he is incredibly respected in Italy by everyone.

"I think that's what speaks more to it, to get to know Gerrard a bit better."
